S5max vs s4max

I am new to Roborock, coming from many years of a roomba 980, and more recently a s9.

I love the Roborock, and I recently purchased an S6 for my all carpeted upstairs, and an s6maxv for my mixed (hardwood/carpeted) floor downstairs. After observing the brush stopping on my medium pile carpet, I am returning the s6maxv for an s5max which doesn’t seem to have the same brush issue.

I do have a question though; if I don’t need the mopping ability, is an s4max the same as a s5max just without the mop?

And if you wouldn’t recommend the s4max for non-mopping what would you recommend?

Thanks!

  • I have an s5max and it has the same issue. Support indicated that the Firmware was updated to protect it when friction is too high. Brush will run for a seconds then stop and it cycles through that process over and over causing the vacuum to miss even some of the lightest debris. The suction alone is NOT enough. Loved this vacuum but not a fan for carpet cleaning at the moment.

edit: with the latest firmware it does appear to do a better job. The brush appears to run quickly at times and instead of completely stopping it will roll slowly with the robot as it moves forward so it’s never just not moving. I will say it’s hard to gauge at times, I wish they would have made the dust bin with crystal clear plastic so it was easier to monitor the brush.
